  • Bubba Perry

Robert “Big Bubba” Perry was born and raised in Nashville, Tennessee. He graduated from Antioch High School in 1983. Bubba has always loved “anything” sports related and played baseball and football during his high school years. He attended Aquinas Junior College on a baseball scholarship. After college he played travel softball frequently, and he also dabbled in the world of professional wrestling. He met his wife Suzi at a wrestling match in 1989. It was love at first sight, and Bubba moved to Hendersonville shortly after they met. They were married two years later in November of 1991. Bubba’s favorite hangout in Hendersonville is Drakes Creek Park. He has played too many games to remember in that park. His kids played soccer in the park. He “chugged” in the park. It is his “happy place”.

Bubba is known for his love of community and giving back. After his two sons Bobby and Cody were born, he wanted to do something special that would assist families in need. He reached out to the “Make A Wish” organization, and after hearing their mission statement, he realized this was the charity he wanted to help make “wishes come true”. With Bubba’s passion for softball and his beloved Drakes Creek Park, he created an idea for a softball tournament that would benefit MAW. That day back in 2004 “Big Bubba’s Bash” was born. The bash was a softball tourney like no other. Numerous teams from all over the country came to participate. Throughout the 10-year run, the Bash added a celebrity softball game during the weekend, a golf scramble, and a 5k run. If you ever attended the bash, you would see the entire Perry family in action, making “wishes come true” for Make A Wish. In those 10 years over $100,000 was raised for MAW and over 15 wishes granted!

After a couple of years off, Bubba felt the need to give to his community once again. He teamed up with his wife, Suzi and friends Brent & Shea Rapheal to host a 5k “Glow” walk/run in Drakes Creek Park. Over 1,000 people participated in the event. $10,000 was for raised Autism Tennessee. It didn’t stop there- Bubba wanted to support a charity that was local and right here in our county. Big Bubba’s Bash was back for a single night of softball at Drakes Creek Park. This time the charity was The Humane Society of Sumner County. The Bash ran for 2 years and raised over $10,000.

Bubba continues to volunteer his time in the Hendersonville community. He has served in various roles and received a few accolades such as:

Vice President, Commando Quarterback Club for one year

President, Commando Quarterback Club for three years

Big Bubba’s Bash voted 2012 Best Annual Event in Sumner County

2013 Hendersonville Samaritan Association Recipient of the Year

Volunteer for many 5k events throughout the city each year

The City of Hendersonville Parks Board member since 2019

Bubba and his wife Suzi have been married for 33 years. They have two sons, Bobby and Cody and a “Shug” named Spirit.
